Ward Talent Show: Rachel and Meghan

At the last minute, Meghan and Rachel agreed to do an act for the Ward Talent show.  Rachel called a girl from our Ward (Ashley) and two of her friends (Emma and Mattea)  to come sing a song by One Direction.  The song was "What Makes You Beautiful".  Perfect song for these very beautiful girls--who are so lovely on the inside and the outside.   Rachel is the one in the crazy hair....

I think they did a great job.  Meghan is accompanying them on her brand new guitar custom built for her by Brother Casper.  She is in love with that amazing guitar she helped to design.  They never got to have a practice all together until 10 minutes before the show!  Pretty talented kids.

It was a fun night!

Ward Talent Show: Meghan and Jessel

Last night was our Ward Talent show.
Meghan played guitar and sang a song with one of her guitar students--Jessel.
They did a great job!  They sang "Never Gonna Leave This Place."  Jessel has only beein playing guitar for a year!  She is doing a great job.
Meghan has loved being able to use her talents to make a little money.  We are so grateful to Grandma and Grandpa for their
"guitar scholarship"!

Zach Swims

While we were in Hawaii, Zach took to swimming like never before.
He has always been hesitant to get his head in the water....probably stems back to having those eartubes in for several years.  But thanks to a little positive peer pressure from cousins, Zach was a swimming champ!

We really can't wait to go back there....

Spring Break

For Christmas last year, my parents gave us all plane tickets to Maui to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary.  We have been looking forward to it for so long.  Zach, Rachel and I flew from Detroit to LA to meet up with my sisters and their families.  Shae, Meghan, Brian and Leilani all had to fly a different airline.  We only had a 30 minute layover and were really stressed we would miss the flight.IMG_0251

We made it but barely had 10 minutes to spare before the plane took off.  It was so exciting to see all of our cousins!  Love these people! It was so cool to see all the familiar faces as we boarded that plane.IMG_0260

Getting here was a LONG haul but so worth it!  We are not looking forward to the return flight AT all!

March Madness

Filling out the brackets for FHE tonight. Everyone is determined to get their name on the family victory ball...even Meg.

Zach came home from school, turned on Sports Center and started lifting weights. I asked what he was doing and he said that he was just getting ready to fill out his bracket and he was was getting "hints" from ESPN. Love that kid!

Importance of Memories

Lately, I having been thinking a lot about how fragile life is.  You never know when the memories you just made might be your last.  I want to be able to fully appreciate my family each day—to cherish the memories we make together.

We were able to spend Christmas in Idaho again. I just love to be home with them all.  It is so peaceful even though there are little kids all over the place.  I love to get to catch up with all these cute cousins. I find it to be a great blessing to be able to create these memories.

Merry Christmas 2011

christmas2011card

Merry Christmas!  For our 2011 Christmas card, we wanted to share some of the things we are most thankful for this year:

Zach (6) is thankful for…

“…my Kindergarten class because it keeps me dry from the rain and it has fun stuff to do—like math. Oh and there is yummy foods to eat at school.”

“…my cool soccer coach—my dad”

“… flag football—specially running through the big noodles”

“…learning how to ride a two wheel bike without training wheels. It’s funner, faster & not so loud!”

“…learning how to write my whole name and other really long words.”

Rachel (12) is thankful for…

“…dance and how easy it is to express myself through it.”

“… my friends: their great support, all the laughs, smiles, winks, & memories we’ve shared.”

“…food and how it keeps me going no matter what—just like a best friend should.”

“…my Kindle because it gets me up early every morning to read the scriptures.”

“…being 12--to experience things like the temple & adult menus at restaurants.”

Meghan (16) is thankful for…

“…Geometry—so I can prove that obviously congruent shapes are congruent.”

“…Theater because without it I would have WAAAAAAAAY too much free time.”

“…my Mackinac Island sweatshirt—despite being huge & not figure flattering.”

“…Les Miserables—without it I’d be forced to listen to ‘normal’ teenage music.”

“…Journalism because it’s my new favorite thing ever!”

Shae is thankful for…

“…a job that I enjoy going to every day.”

“…being Zach’s soccer coach for a 4th season.”

“…watching my girls develop their talents and share them on various stages.”

“…a wife that loves the Lord, loves me, and loves our kids.”

“…a burning testimony of the Savior and His gospel.”

Michelle is thankful for…

“…finding my bearings after having all my kids gone to school all day.”

“…a patient family because man, they have to put up with a lot from me!”

“…my mini-van that is constantly chauffeuring kids to their activities.”

“…the perspective that the Gospel of Jesus Christ brings into my life.”

We love you and hope your holiday season is filled with family, happiness and gratitude!

Happy Halloween 2011

Our Halloween festivities started off with the Ward Trunk or Treat.  We really missed having Meghan there with us.  She had to go to her play rehersal.

Shae had been planning his Mr. Clean costume for awhile.  Of course, with a costume like that you can imagine he had to stay after to help with clean up! IMG_0201
Rachel rocked her 80’s look.

I LOVED having my Mom here.  It has been a wonderful October.  We don’t usually get to see Grandma at Halloween.  IMG_0207
Zach carved his very own pumpkin this year.  He worked so hard on it and was proud of the result!  Zach chose a happy face—he is not at all into the spooky part of Halloween.
IMG_0235
Rachel did her own pumpkin as well.  She looked up a pattern online for Jack from the “Nightmare before Christmas” movie.  Kinda spooky!  IMG_0232
Meghan was pretty wiped out from her play this week so her pumpkin got to remain in it’s natural state!  Beautiful girl.  IMG_0234

Shae craved a sports pumpkin—of course.
Go Lions!IMG_0245
Zach’s school had a Halloween Parade.
The kids were so adorable!IMG_0251
Zach was a race car driver.
He was bummed to not have a real car.
(His almost 16 year old sister wants one too!)IMG_0257
It was a beautiful night for trick or treating.  We had a big group of teenagers join us.  They might be a little too old to go, but it was a blast having them come with us.  IMG_0274

Zach found a costume for Captain Stripes.
He even made a little trick or treat bag for him.
 IMG_0277
Meghan settled on her costume today.  Nothing like waiting until the last minute.  We went to the Halloween store looking for a Rapunzel princess costume and this is what we came out with.  Hmmm.
IMG_0285
She is a Zombie Fighter?  I guess that is what you call it?  She spent about 30 minutes ripping up her shirt on the chain link fence in the back yard.

Our cute group of trick or treaters:
A BYU football player, Dwight Shrute, Zombie Slayer, Justin Bieber, a Nerd, a race car driver, an 80’s girl, a vampire, and a kitty cat.
