Talk about the Ultimate Daddy Daughter Date.Thanks to a very generous gift from Shae's cousin Jennifer, Shae and Meghan were able to go on a hot-air balloon ride this weekend. It was such a beautiful evening.

Because the balloon floats on the wind and has no way to steer, you never know where it is going to land. A "chaser" van follows the balloon to try to arrange a landing site. They ended up landing in some grandpa's backyard. Imagine his surprise when he is out in the yard playing with his grandkids and an enormous hot air balloon comes over the treetops and lands in his yard. 
Rachel and her friend Sam decided to stay on the ground this time. But, they really enjoyed watching the balloon be filled with air prior to launch. Rachel was a bit worried about being that high up in the sky, just like her Mom, so we chased after the balloon in our van. It was so much fun.

Meghan says she was never a bit nervous the entire time. I am not sure where she gets her guts--but it is not from her mother. Here are Shae and Meghan, along with Jessica and Darren Stipe, preparing for takeoff. I am uttering silent prayers for their safety at this point.
It was breathtaking to watch the balloons gently float up on their adventure.
The balloon pilot spent most of the time floating just over the treetops, but he did take the balloon all the way down to the water a couple of times. They called it a "Splash and Dash." Shae said the reflection of the balloon in the lake was beautiful. 
Here we are watching the balloon float over us about to land. Julie, Sam and Alex Stipe came with us which made it so much more fun. What a memorable experience. Thanks again to Jen for thinking of us.

What a fun experience! I think some of us would have liked to go too! Hot Air balloons have always seemed so peaceful to me. I loved it in Provo when you could see so many in the air at once.
