"I Can Be Kind To Animals".
We had the children (almost all) seated in the traditional semi-circle and my co-nursery worker was hard at work teaching the children how Heavenly Father made all of the beautiful animals and we should feed them, take care of them, be kind to them.
She proceeded to share a boyhood story of President Kimball--who apparently had a sling shot and who apparently thought about shooting a bird in a tree with it.
Key Teaching Moment:
We paused to ask the children "Should he shoot that bird in the tree with a rock?"
Three year old Merritt (a darling little girl in our nursery) exclaimed NO!
I smiled at my fellow nursery workers (my husband was one of them). You see, we were all so pleased that the children were getting the point of our lesson).
Merritt continues: "NO--not a rock, you should shoot it with a gun."
After the initial shock had passed,
we all burst out laughing.
You never know what you are going to get with this job. Isn't nursery great?
